Odds and Ends from Last Week

* Genetically Modified Crops GMOs) are in the news because the House of Representatives voted not to allow labeling of foods containing GMOs, irrespective of what individual states may decide to require on their labels. Pushed by the giant food companies, and championed by Republican (of course) Congressman Pompeo from Kansas, this act flies in the face of what 9 out of 10 consumers want, keeps us in the dark and, frankly, violates “states’ rights,” a phrase we have heard much of in other contexts, such as flying the Confederate flag.  A true Libertarian would want to have consumers have the ability to make decisions for themselves. Keeping people in the dark under false pretenses is better suited for countries like North Korea.

* I wrote about these so-called Christians who really don’t care about Isreal, don’t know anything about Jews, but yet are ardent supporters of Isreal in opposing the nuclear deal with Iran. I pointed out that these “Christians” are interested in the land for themselves. Last week, Republican candidate Mike Huckabee, former Governor of Arkansas, and an “ordained minister,” likened the Iran deal to the Holocaust. Mike, you are an ignorant man. You have no right talking about the Holocaust. You, living in the heartland of the U.S., are clueless, even if you had visited a concentration camp in Europe. You are a despicable charlatan and I know exactly why you want to help the Israeli government — for now.

*Speaking of the deal with Iran, one of the Democrats that also seems to oppose the agreement is  Senator Chuck Schumer of New York. I don’t know this for sure, because Mr. Schumer has not clearly elucidated his position, as yet. But I would like to remind Mr. Schumer, that we don’t take our orders from Israeli Prime minister Netanyahu, who opposes the deal for his own personal selfish interests. That man simply wants to keep money and arms flowing to his country, and wants to hold on to power by scaring everyone.

* The Obama Administration’s  misguided Transpacific Trade Agreement (TPP) may have faded from the news for now, but that doesn’t mean that this bad deal has been forgotten. This is going to cost us dearly and, for the life of me, I can’t figure out why Obama would want this (on the other hand, I understand very well why Republicans voted for it)!
